Frequently Asked Questions

What if I forget my password?

If you are unable to remember your password, visit the Forgot Password page to reset. A new password will be sent to your email address.

Can I work on multiple corrections or transcriptions at the same time?

Unfortunately, the application only supports working on one CHECO transcription or correction at a time. However, you can always open up PDF version of an additional CHECO to begin transcribing offline on your computer. You can then copy-paste your transcription of that second document after using the application to submit or discard your active document transcription or correction.

Does this research support any Department of Defense or Department of the Air Force efforts?

The researchers intend to use the textually digitized CHECO reports for a number of products, to include a website providing a comprehensive examination of USAF airpower in the Vietnam War. Other uses include data mining, creation of e-books, and more.

What is to prevent other people from working on a document that I am working on?

Other volunteers may select the same document, but their work is separate from your effort and cannot affect any work you do. Different volunteers completing transcription or correction of the same document helps both the research aspect of this project, as well as the textual-digitization effort.

Will someone else working on my document over-write my work?

No. Each volunteer has a separate account from which they work. If another volunteer selects the same document, their work will be saved separately from yours. Different volunteers completing transcription or correction of the same document helps both the research aspect of this project, as well as the textual-digitization effort.

How do I drop out from the project?

You can withdraw from the project by clicking on the Help button in the lower right hand corner of the dashboard, and then Support. You do NOT have to formally drop out if you simply no longer wish to transcribe or correct documents. In that case, you can just quit using the application.
